God is Watching Over When We Search For Him

Do you ever feel that the Lord is far away? That He is not hearing your prayers or even present in your life?

When I think of this kind of feeling, which of course, I too have experienced, I also think of the horror that Jesus felt on the cross when He truly was abandoned by His Father God at the moment that He became sin for humanity that we might have eternal life in Him. Because God the Father cannot look upon sin due to being the very embodiment of holiness, He had to look away from His dearly beloved son while He was bearing the sin of the whole world… of every single person since the beginning of time… a burden of untold weight and grief.

When Jesus cried out on the cross, “My God, my God, WHY have You forsaken me?” He was not asking a rhetorical question, but instead His very soul was crying out from the loss, even for a moment, of the constant and loving Presence of the Father.

I am so glad that we have many promises in the Word of God that we do not have to remain feeling distant from our Savior. We are told that if we seek for Him, we will find Him. In Deuteronomy 4:29, we read, “But if... you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

And again in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

When we are feeling that the Lord is distant from us, or our prayers are not being answered, let us determine to seek Him with all our hearts by reading His Word, and listening to that Word to be obedient to what He shows us. He has promised that if we seek, we will find, and that we will again enjoy the actual knowledge of His presence with us. He is definitely watching over us as we seek Him, to reveal His nature and His works to us. I am so thankful that we do not go through this alone, but His watchful eye accompanies all our seeking and finding!
